OUR MISSION STATEMENT
Assalamu Alaikum, Good Day Listener You may be listening to this broadcast by coincidence or by design. You are listening to FREEDOM RADIO, (Muryar Jama’a), an indigenous private Radio station just established in Kano. The citing of the station in this historic city, the commercial nerve center of the sub-Saharan Africa and perhaps Nigeria’s political melting pot is not by accident. A city with adequate representation of all Nigerian and to some extent African and international socio-cultural values, certainly deserves an independent Radio that would serve as a market place of ideas for all and Sundry to shop. The dearth of independent media, particularly electronic in this part of Nigeria; the wide information gap existing within our society; the need for our people to have a mouthpiece for the expression of their views and the projection of their values, calls for an urgent provision of a sustainable media organization that could achieve these and other objectives. These reasons, and many more, made Freedom Radio (perhaps the first indigenous independent Radio Station) a child of necessity. Nigeria’s National Unity is not negotiable. It is therefore one of the primary missions of this station, to promote National Unity and encourage mutual interaction between the different components of our society. Information, Education, Entertainment and the promotion and protection of our socio cultural values will be paramount in our programming, in addition to advancing the constitutional rights of Freedom of expression, especially for the less privileged members of the society, within the law. Freedom Radio will also be fair in its reporting and programming, objective in analysis and fearless in its coverage of issues and carrying out its onerous responsibility of providing information to all and sundry. This policy will actualize our aspiration to gain public confidence. In our effort to satisfy our listeners in the quest for a reliable medium of communication, Freedom Radio has acquired the best modern broadcast equipment and shopped for highly skilled and talented professionals, aimed at providing the listener with the best broadcasting through our dynamic programming, which will cut across the spectrum of our society. We are transmitting on a Frequency Modulated Band (FM) on 99.5 mega hertz. The station has concluded arrangement for re-transmission with Radio Dutcsche Welle to give the public a more global coverage. Our reach, covering the whole of Kano, Jigawa, and Katsina states, and parts of Bauchi, Kaduna, Plateau Yobe and Zamfara states, as well as Zinder and Maradi in Niger Republic, puts additional burden on us, to strive and satisfy the expectations of our listeners. We will do exactly that. We are also aware of the heavier burden that would rest on our shoulders when we expand in accordance with our plans to cover the entire Nation and connect on to the internet for people all over the world. We will not relent in our efforts to take the lead in socially responsible broadcasting. That is what the name, “FREEDOM RADIO” is all about; giving free access to information for all and sundry. That is why we are Muryar Jama’a; a voice for the voiceless. As Freedom Radio establishes its roots in the annals of broadcasting history, we hope to venture into other communication media in the future. Our quest is to satisfy the listening public and our prayer is that they should keep faith with us. Thank you and happy listening.
