Restoration Of Peace Not An Easy Task – Dambazzau

The Minister of Interior, Abdurrahman Dambazau, has stated that Military are on top of war against Boko Haram insurgency but added that “winning the peace is not an easy task”

The Interior Minister disclosed this during a courtesy visit on Governor Ibrahim Gaidam at the Government House, Damaturu, said he was conducting a tour  to assess the general security situation in Yobe, Borno and Adamawa States with a view  to taking a holistic approach of ending insecurity in the Northeast Region.

“Part of what the military had done is winning the war but,  we also know that winning peace is as important as the war. Because, if you win the war and didn’t win the peace is likely that you are going back to square one. So, win the peace is not an easy task” He said

He said that the foremost task to win peace in the Boko Haram affected states is to ensure that there is law and order within communities in the Northeast and it is the duty of the five security Services under his Ministry.

“That job is the job of five security services in the Ministry of Interior: Police, Immigration, Civil defense, Prison Service. We will ensure that all the efforts made to win the war has been consolidated.”

“Our men will be deployed to the secured areas so that some level of civil authority will be established and the overall surveillance of governance to enable people resettle and continue with their normal lives”

 

In his address, Governor Gaidam who commended the efforts of security operatives in the state towards overcoming insurgency and used the forum to appeal for improved welfare as well as reconstruction of facilities of officers and men the various security services destroyed during series of attacks by Boko Haram.

He observed that Yobe state is grossly under represented in the security services of the Interior Ministry, urging the Minister to ratify the anomalies by giving special preference to Yobe Indigenes.

The Governor also appealed for deployment of enough resources for Rehabilitation, reconstruction and resettlement of the areas devastated by insurgency.

The Interior Minister was accompanied to Yobe state by Inspector General of police Solomon Erase, Commandant-General NSDC, Comptroller General Nigeria Prison s Service., CComptroller General Nigeria Immigration Service and other top security officials.
