Charlatans must not be allowed to decide restructuring of Nigeria – Falana
Lagos lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana, SAN, yesterday argued that for the country to move forward, there must be a democratic restructuring of the polity, describing efforts at restructuring the country since the return of democracy as “rickety.”
Speaking as a guest speaker at the public lecture organized by the Lagos State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, to mark the 23rd anniversary of the annulment of June 12, presidential election, he warned that charlatans must not be allowed to decide the restructuring of the country.
Falana, who called for more devolution of power to the states from the Federal Government, said; “We have been having series of restructuring in Nigeria since 1999 and all we have been having are rickety democracy.
“Restructuring of Nigeria should be decided by Nigerians and not by charlatans. And there cannot be restructuring without democratization and the Federal Government from Abuja should shelve power to the states for even development to take place.”
