Despite shared points with Tunisia, Ezenwa says Eagles will progress
Super Eagles gave up a goal lead to Tunisia in their second group fixture of the fourth African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Rwanda but goalkeeper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa insists that the Nigerian team would secure passage to the next round of the championship.
Speaking with npfl.ng after the 1-1 draw that saw the Tunisians in dominance on Friday, the former Sharks FC goalkeeper expressed confidence that the Super Eagles will reach the next round of the championship.
“I think it is one of those moments in the game, we got punished for not playing to our full potentials. However, I think the result is good, a point is important considering the fact that our opponents needed the game more. Our attention is now shifted to the next game.
“I’m optimistic we will qualify to the next round, we have accumulated four points and we are now the favourites in this group. We are hopeful that against Guinea the job will be completed,” Ezenwa said.
Ezenwa tasked the supporters and Nigerians to motivate the team to success in the championship.
“They should continue praying for us, we are here to make them proud and we will do everything humanly possible to represent the nation well. We need their support during this key moment to scale through the group stages,” added Ezenwa.
