Senate Can’t Stop Saraki, Ekweremadu’s Prosecution – Attorney General Malami
The Attorney General of the Federation has reacted to an allegation that his decision to charge the senate president, Bukola Saraki, and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, for allegedly forging the Senate’s rules, is a violation of the principle of separation of powers.
The Senate had condemned the charges and summoned Mr. Malami to explain the basis for taking legal action against its principal officers.
Mr. Malami responded Thursday with a statement, after failing to honour the summons.
The attorney general said he acted within the powers of his office, and faulted the senate’s position that issues regarding it rules were exclusively the senate’s business.
