Ekpo: Enyimba Lucky No Extra Time Vs Etoile
Former Nigeria international Friday Ekpo believes Enyimba were lucky that their CAF Champions League clash against Etoile du Sahel on Wednesday did not extend into extra-time.
Despite trailing 3-0 from the first leg, Etoile managed to cancel the deficit but still crashed out 4-3 after a penalty shootout.
Theophilus Afelokhai saved three spot kicks before Peter Onyekachi scored the decisive kick to send Enyimba into the group phase.
Speaking with Completesportsnigeria.com, Ekpo however congratulated Enyimba for achieving the feat.
“I think Enyimba were lucky that the game went straight into penalty shootout and not extra-time because the story would have been different,” the former Super Eagles midfielder said.
“The game showed that both teams are very strong. Enyimba scored three goals in the first leg and Etoile were able to cancel the deficit, and they had to be separated through penalty shootout.
“So congratulations to them for qualifying into the group stage. We all know the North Africans, the way they do their thing, getting victory at all costs. So I am impressed with Enyimba’s will power.”
