Rivers United Overtake Rangers, Shooting Stars Held
Rivers United are the new leaders of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
The Port Harcourt team upstaged Enugu Rangers, after defeating Heartland 1-0 at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium on Wednesday.
Christian Welli scored the only goal of the encounter, heading in Ebele Obi’s cross.
Rivers United now have 50 points, two more than Rangers.
Rangers’ title bid suffered a blow, after they were beaten 2-0 by Oriental rivals, IfeanyiUbah FC.
The loss ended the Flying Antelopes’ seven-game run without defeat.
In other games, Sunshine Stars hammered Ikorodu United 3-0, Shooting Stars drew 0-0 with El-Kanemi Warriors and Lobi Stars beat Abia Warriors 3-2.
MFM FC were held to a 1-1 draw by Warri Wolves at the Agege Stadium.
